When Zero Zero Pickleball acquired a warehouse space in Richmond, British Columbia, their vision was to transform it into a modern, professional-grade indoor pickleball facility designed around player experience. The project involved a full renovation of the building, with lighting playing a critical role in the overall design.

The Challenge
Designing lighting for an indoor pickleball facility presents unique challenges. Players frequently look upward during serves, lobs, and overhead shots, making glare a major concern—especially in a multi-court, competitive environment.
Zero Zero Pickleball needed a lighting solution that would:
- Provide consistent, high-quality illumination across all courts
- Minimize glare and visual discomfort for players
- Support professional-grade play and training
- Scale with future court expansion
The Solution
Working closely with the Zero Zero Pickleball team, Commercial Lighting consultant, Zack, recommended linear highbay fixtures paired with a custom lighting layout designed specifically for pickleball play.
Rather than positioning fixtures directly above the courts, Commercial Lighting developed a detailed floor plan that placed the highbays along each side of the court. This approach significantly reduces glare, helping prevent players from being blinded when serving or tracking the ball overhead.
The lighting design also allows for a consistent experience across the current courts while supporting the planned expansion in Spring 2026.
Lighting solution details:
- Fixture type: Linear highbay
- Fixture model: Eiko LHS1-PS160-8FCCT-HDIM
- Wattage / lumen output: 160W / 24,000 Lumens
- Mounting height: 20 foot mount / 20 foot ceilings. Fixtures are suspended slightly.
- Lighting controls: N/A
The Result
The completed facility delivers bright, evenly distributed lighting that enhances visibility without compromising player comfort. By keeping fixtures out of direct sightlines, the lighting design supports better focus, improved reaction time, and a more enjoyable playing experience across all courts.

Why It Matters
This project demonstrates how intentional lighting design can elevate indoor sports facilities. By tailoring both fixture selection and placement to the demands of pickleball, Commercial Lighting helped create a space that supports professional play today while remaining flexible for future growth.
